Tourism Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma has asked State governments and Union Territory administrations to ensure safety of domestic & international tourists visiting tourist sites by establishing ‘Selfie Danger Zone’ as one of the measures they can take.
Dr Mahesh Sharma told that it was incumbent upon States and Union Territory administrations to take such precautions to avoid ‘unforseen’ incidents. He also said his ministry takes review of security of tourists from time to time.
Sharma also said that State government of Maharashtra & karnataka had informed Tourism Ministry thier measures taken up to create awareness through singnages indicating danger zones including selfie danger zone.
He also said that last year around 27 selfie related deaths happened around world, out of which 15 happened in India. For example in January 2015, 3 students from Delhi Ncr were run over by a speeding train on a track near kosikala in Uttar Pradesh.
