Ok, so all of a sudden Indian Supreme Court is all active about husband wife relationships and divorce. We have not even crossed half of October, and we are already bombarded with reasons to file divorce, be it for the family’s peace of one’s own peace. So let’s check out the reasons one by one.
- Character Assassination
Let’s begin with the first one this month. As per a recent case, a man in New Delhi, had sought divorce, claiming he was a non-smoker and a teetotaller, but was defamed by his wife as an alcoholic and a womanizer. Therefore, the beginning of this law, which in a way does make sense.
- Spoilt Honeymoon
Well, this one is for an exceptional case, about a couple who have been living a disturbed marriage for last 12 years.
- If the wife force his husband to leave his parents house
The one that ruled the internet. This one is especially for the single boy child who is the only source of income for his parents. Well, the decision has received many disagreements too, as the law completely forgets the life of a woman, who even though is a single child have to leave her parents no matter what. Not agreeing to this would be disrespecting society norms.
- Triple Talaq being abolished
This is the rule for divorce in the Muslim community. According to the rule, there are two types of triple talaq: One, he can utter triple talaq in one sitting in the presence of two witnesses; two, he can decide to give talaq in three monthly instalments. The first means killing a goat instantly and the second means slow butchering over three months. As divorce culture is discouraged by Muslims, the act is very disrespectful. The law has not only proved to be a Muslim woman’s liberation, it is also a Muslim husband’s need.
- Denying sex to husband for long
The best one I came across today. According to Delhi High Court, denying sex to husband for a long time without any justification is a ground for divorce. The law came into action, based on a case wherein, a husband is seeking divorce, complaining that his wife had subjected him to mental cruelty by not allowing him to have physical relations for four-and-a-half-years though she was not suffering from any physical disability.
Looks like we Indians are getting way too modernized in terms of relationships, getting hitched or ditched. I’m afraid we might even make people abroad feel complex of India on this.Share on Facebook
